A new analysis and first of its kind found that the extinction rates of plant species was alarmingly high around the world.
Since 1750, more than 571 plant species have been “completely wiped out” and the rate of plant extinction is “500 times greater” than it was before the Industrial Revolution.
As reported by The Guardian, plant extinctions around the world more than doubled the amount of extinctions of birds, mammals and amphibians combined.
Plants are essential to human existence, and the rate of plant extinction is “frightening”, researchers said.
