This month, India is celebrating its biggest philanthropic donation to-date from the billionaire Azim Premji, who is the chairman of the information tech company, Wipro (WIT).
Premji will be donating $7.5 billion worth of shares from his tech company to the Premji Foundation, which focuses on developing the education sector in rural India and indirectly, around the globe. The recent donation will help to establish a new university to continue expanding opportunities for locals.
Over the years, the foundation has helped to establish educational opportunities for youth and leaders across the country through its various on-site institutions.
The foundation’s website maintains that the University’s main goal is “to prepare education and development sector professionals who can contribute to a just equitable and humane society.”
