A new report from the Thomas Reuters Foundation ranked the United States as one of the top 10 most dangerous places for women encountering and experiencing violence.
One of the main factors that placed the U.S. on the list was growing awareness of sexual harassment against women in the public sphere.
Other countries that were ranked among the top 10 most dangerous places for women included India, Syria, Pakistan and Nigeria, as well as other areas affected by war and conflict.
“People want to think income means you’re protected from misogyny, and sadly that’s not the case,” said Cindy Southworth, of the National Network to End Domestic Violence.
