In the U.S., women are burdened with higher debt than their male peers, according to a new analysis of data surrounding student loan debt in higher education.
According to the analysis, women owe about $2700 more than men upon completing a 4-year degree and additionally they owe more than two thirds of the U.S.’s student loan debt.
“With female borrowers taking out the most student loans, women are already at a financial disadvantage upon entering the professional world,” the report notes, and additionally must face the gender pay gap, making it more difficult to pay off loans.
The average debt for students graduating from college was a few hundreds of $28,000 in 2015 and 2016.
