The Tisch Illumination Fund has pledged $10 million for programs in New York that help patients living with Dementia, Alzheimer’s and mental illness through the use of art.

Recipients of the grants include programs that help patients interact with art, make art, or tour art galleries, for example. These types of programs often offer a therapeutic experience for patients dealing with trauma, or help stimulate their minds through seeing art.

Other organizations include NYC Mural Arts Project, which works to destigmatize mental health problems through public works of art.

Leaders of the foundation said that the initiative will likely grow and that the foundation itself will focus on supporting the sector that falls in the intersection of art and health.
