Baltimore school officials announced a decrease in the number of enrolled students which has impacted the city.
The number of students within Baltimore decreased by 1,700 this year, marking a 10 year low in the district’s enrollment.
Compared to last year in which over 82,000 students were enrolled in Baltimore schools, only about 80,500 students are currently in the public school system.
As more citizens are moving to other areas in Baltimore County, education officials are exploring ways to keep students within Baltimore city schools.
“We need a situation where the schools are getting stronger so we can hold onto these young people as they turn into families,” explained former city school board member Anirban Basu.
