Number of Unreported Cases of Harm Caused to Children Leads to Concerns in Massachusetts

The Massachusetts state audit released late last week indicates that the Department of Children and Families failed to report several incidents of injury and harm caused to children.

The state’s child welfare agency was unnotified in more than 15 cases of children suffering from harm caused by rape, sexual abuse and more.

In more than 200 cases there were no records of injuries reported to the department.

Leaders in the department stated that the numbers reflect incidents of 2015 and said that since then, several changes have been implemented to improve standards of reporting such incidents of harm caused to children, including increasing the number of staff handling all the cases.
