The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has pledged to grant $1.7 billion to new initiatives that focus on constructing networks of school.
Rather than continuing to fund traditional forms of education, the Microsoft billionaire and his wife will fund new ways to decrease class sizes for more personalized coursework.
The foundation will work with a number of schools across the US and in other countries to transform the ways in which students learn.
“Education is, without a doubt, one of the most challenging areas we invest in as a foundation,” said Bill Gates in a statement.
“I’m excited about the shift in our work and the focus on partnering with networks of schools,” he added.
