A new poll revealed that more than of half of respondents throw away batteries rather than recycle them.
Batteries contain heavy metals such as a lead, mercury and cadmium, that can harm the environment by infiltrating irrigation systems.
Every year millions of batteries end up in landfills rather than recycled and reused.
One of the greatest obstacles is that recycling sites for batteries are not always easy to locate, although companies that sell batteries are “required to provide collection points,” as reported by The Guardian.
