Due to recently proposed budget cuts to educational programs, teachers and researchers are advocating the benefits of teaching children two languages.
According to previous studies, bilingual children are better at focusing and multitasking compared to their peers.
However, child development professionals believe the learning processes of bilingual children are largely misunderstood as individuals with perfect bilingualism is becoming more uncommon.
“There is nothing magical in the child’s brain that allows them to learn any language they hear without lots of environmental support,” explained Erika Hoff, professor of psychology at Florida Atlantic University.
“Parents who want to raise their children to be bilingual are swimming upstream because the environment in the US is not supportive,” she added.
