Scientists are working to develop tests that determine if a person has the condition through biological markers in the brain.

Some of the tests that exist already are highly expensive and generally inaccessible to most people. But new, less invasive and cheaper technology could make testing more widely available and improve efforts to determine patients who are at high-risk for getting the illness.

The tests that scientists are working on involve blood testing, rather than brain scans, which can cost patients thousands of dollars.

However, even if the non-invasive testing would reach the market, there would be more barriers in getting doctors and insurance companies on board.
