A team of archaeologists have made an impressive discovery by uncovering a lost city within a Honduran rain forest.
According to legend, the now vacant and previously unexplored region was once called the “City of the Monkey God,” but its culture is relatively unknown.
Archaeologists have found that the city, which was also once referred to as the “White City,” housed an extensive and thriving culture that was prevalent a thousand years ago.
However, the area that surrounds the lost city is being threatened due to illegal deforestation and ranching practices.
“If we don’t do something right away, most of this forest and valley will be gone in eight years,” states Virgilio Paredes Trapero, the director of the Honduran Institute of Anthropology and History.
