According to the latest data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, numerous metro areas throughout the U.S. offer lucrative opportunities for professionals in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).
California offers some of the highest income opportunities, with three of the top five regions located in, and around, Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area.
In terms of job openings, R&D budgets, transit, housing, and overall quality of life, the East Coast outranks California. According to a post by Wallethub, when considering these factors the best geographical areas include Boston, Cambridge, Newton, and Springfield.
However, the Census Bureau states that “men continue to be overrepresented in STEM, especially in computer and engineering occupations [across the country]. About 86 percent of engineers and 74 percent of computer professionals are men.”
