A new study in Australia found that younger children in classrooms are more likely to be prescribed medications for behavioral disorders.
Often, “immature” behavior is interpreted as a behavioral disorder which often results in younger children bearing the brunt of over-prescriptions for ADHD, the study concluded.
Several international studies that have also found evidence suggesting that the youngest students in classrooms are targets for over-medication.
In the U.S., the use of medication for ADHD by children and teens under the age of 16 is at least 4.4% compared to other countries, like Australia with just under two percent.
