Conservation groups in Oregon and nationwide are publicly condemning the actions of the anti-government protesters currently occupying a building in the Malheur federal wildlife sanctuary in Eastern Oregon, reports the Washington Post.
According to these nonprofits, including the Portland Audubon Society and Virginia-based Conservatives for Responsible Stewardship, the occupiers’ activities are detrimental to the environment and the rights of the American people.
As the standoff continues, the groups that oversee restoration projects, fundraising, and wildlife research in the area worry that the occupiers may harm Malheur’s fragile ecosystem while maintaining their protest.
