Poverty Increased in One-Third of U.S. Counties

New data from the US Census Bureau released this month revealed that poverty grew in one-third of counties across the country in the last two years.

Still, poverty increased in some states more than others. Texas, for example, had 83 counties where the poverty rate grew. The regions with increased poverty were rural and in the South, according to Pew Trusts Org.

The Census count for next year will be very important for these counties that rely on accurate numbers to receive funding, especially for schools and local resources.
