After several discussions, a museum in Australia is receiving 42 aboriginial artifacts from the Illinois State Museum.
“Not only is this exciting from the standpoint of getting to be the first to return culturally significant items as a part of this program, this repatriation will serve as a model of successful collaboration and best practices for other museums,” said Museum director Cinnamon Catlin-Legutko.
The artifacts include sacred objects that are significant to the native groups of Australia and hold significant value to their rightful owners.
