Amid the growing crisis of homelessness in Los Angeles, the city council is implementing a rule that prohibits people from sleeping in their cars in residential areas. This comes as some residents have complained of shortage in parking and a growing lack of sanitation on the streets.
The rule requires those who violate it to pay a $25, $50, or $75 violation fee to the city.
Currently, more than 10,000 people are living in their cars, vans and RVs within the city of Los Angeles.
Those who oppose the rule say that it will contribute to the problem that already makes homelessness a difficult situation to be in, creating more unnecessary stress for the homeless.
Though living in a car had been illegal for many years in the city, the rule had been struck down and then renewed again recently.
