A major donation to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures from the George Lucas Family Foundation will allow for free admission to all youth under the age of 18. Though the donation amount was not disclosed to the public, the sizable donation will help to perpetually offer free admission to youth.
Museum Director Kerry Brougher explained in a statement that the museum was committed to making the museum’s educational opportunity available to new generations.
“To succeed, though, we must break down the financial barriers that make it difficult for families, students, and teens to visit cultural institutions. We are deeply grateful to the George Lucas Family Foundation for understanding our mission so well and making it possible for us to waive admission for our youngest audiences so they can engage with exhibitions and programs that will nurture their creativity and encourage them to tell their own stories,” he said, as reported by CBS Local.
The museum will be officially opening late 2019.
