Amazon and the National Science Foundation are partnering to invest $10 million in researching, developing and implementing fairness into artificial intelligence technology.
The two will come together to grant $10 million to organizations that develop systems of AI fairness, including projects in explainability, potential adverse biases and effects, mitigation strategies, validation of fairness, and considerations of inclusivity, as reported by Venturebeat.
“This program will support research related to the development and implementation of trustworthy AI systems that incorporate transparency, fairness, and accountability into the design from the beginning,” said NSF head of computer and information science engineering, Jim Kurose.
The effort comes as more companies are investing in improving AI fairness by looking for ways to eliminate bias that is built into AI based on gender, race, religion and background.
Amazon and the National Science Foundation will be accepting proposals for relevant projects until May 10.
