According to a new study published in the journal JAMA Pediatrics, few teenagers are taking care to exercise, sleep and limit their screen-time on a daily basis.
The study took into consideration more than 60,000 teenagers and found that fewer than 5 percent were actually sleeping the recommended eight to ten hours per night, and getting at least one hour of exercise per day.
Though researchers noted that the recommended two-hour limit for screen-time can be difficult for teens who have a lot of homework, it could be disrupting their sleep cycles and ultimately their energy levels during the day.
The study found that 3 percent of girls in the study were meeting the recommendations, and 7 percent of boys in the study were meeting the recommendation, and among minorities, the percentage was 2 to 4 percent, versus 6 percent among white teens.
