The Minnesota Department of Health will be adding Alzheimer’s to its list of conditions that can be treated with medical marijuana under its cannabis program that has been running for two years, as reported by Star Tribune. This will make Minnesota the 15th state to allow marijuana for treating memory loss.
This will be the 14th health condition added to the list, along with cancer pain, seizures, PTSD and autism. Experts decided this after finding that marijuana stunts the growth of certain proteins related to memory loss.
“There is some evidence for potential benefits of medical cannabis to improve the mood, sleep and behavior of patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease,” said the state’s health commissioner, noting that there is still very little research for a clear conclusion.
