With rising health care coverage costs impacting numerous Americans, foster care parents are struggling to adequately provide for their children.
While Medicaid coverage pays for children in foster care, many parents are unable to find doctors who accept the program’s funds.
In particular, few mental health doctors accept Medicaid, placing financial strains on families who need their services.
According to a study published in the journal Pediatrics, children in foster care were five times as likely to have anxiety and six times as likely to exhibit behavioral problems compared to other children.
Health care providers are exploring different options to effectively care for all needs of the nearly 450,000 children currently living in the US foster care system.
