A study published in the National Academy of Sciences by Harvard Business Researchers finds that “waiting periods” which are required in some states before becoming a gun-owner actually reduce the number of homicides with guns involved by at least 17 percent.
Approximately 750 gun homicides are avoided each year thanks to the delay periods in 17 different states in the U.S.
If delay periods were mandatory in more states, over 900 more homicides would be avoided each year, according to the study.
