Funds for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) are set to run out, leaving millions of children without health care coverage.
CHIP has helped families who cannot afford health insurance but earn too much to qualify for Medicaid.
Due to the low cost coverage, the program has helped to keep families from being unemployed or impacted by poverty.
Additionally, the health care coverage also allows children to escape a cycle of low-income employment as early medical and developmental issues are identified.
As of 2016, CHIP covered 8.4 million across the US, and health advocates believe the that dissolving the program will cause children to forgo preventative care.
