A wave of police officers and doctors have begun taking art classes at museums in order to increase their observation skills.
According to a new report from the University of Pennsylvania’s medical school, art observation classes helped to improve the visual analysis skills of medical students who participated in the study.
Because most medical students are not taught how to correctly read images, the art program allows them to accurately interpret images, such as X-rays and other scans.
Researchers found this visual training also helps members of law enforcement to objectively view a scene without infusing their own biases.
Art advocates believe the observation program will help individuals in becoming more analytical both in their professions and everyday lives.
