With the emergence of gene editing practices, scientists and health officials are warning individuals regarding the ethical dilemmas surrounding the new method.
CRISPR, a form of technology that modifies genes, can help to eliminate diseases and produce higher yields of crops.
However, the creators of CRISPR are educating the public regarding the unethical issues surrounding gene editing, especially in regards to in vitro fertilization.
“We can no longer say, well there’s a lot of technology development to be done before we have to worry about that application,” explained Jennifer Doudna, an inventor of CRISPR.
“It’s now a question of ‘we know this can work, are we willing to go there or not?’” she added.
