Employers have begun to offer more services and support for employees battling mental health issues as a way to increase employment efforts.
In a study conducted by the American Psychological Association, less than half of the 1,501 workers surveyed stated their companies “supported employee well-being.”
However, many workplaces are acknowledging mental health sick days and are implementing programs to encourage employees to seek help.
“We know from literature that there is a huge amount of calling in sick because of mental health issues,” said Clare Miller, director of the partnership for workplace mental health at the American Psychiatric Association Foundation.
Mental health officials hope new workplace changes will lessen the negative stigmas that impact those with mental disorders.
