The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art will provide you with a picture of an artwork from its collection when you text it a key phrase or emoji.
If you text the number 572-51 the SFMoMA database responds with an image tailored to the key word you “request” when you send “text me a —-.”
The SFMOMA’s Collection API contains data on more than 35,000 artworks from its collection and will select an artwork and its corresponding information to send you “art on demand.”
Less than 5 percent of the museum’s actual collection is on display at any given time because the collection is so large, than much of it is in storage. Texting the database gives you more access to the collection than actually visiting in person.
