According to new reports by the Centers for Disease Control, nearly one in four babies who were exposed to the Zika virus as infants are receiving adequate testing.
Many babies became exposed to the virus when their mothers contracted Zika, and about 10 percent of babies born to infected mothers have been diagnosed with birth defects.
While the virus can cause a multitude of birth defects, the CDC warns parents that even seemingly healthy children could be affected.
However, due to federal budget cuts regarding health care, individuals are worried testing for the Zika virus could be limited as more mosquito-related diseases are increasing worldwide.
“Now is not the time to make draconian cuts to the agencies tasked with fighting Zika or other health crises,” said Democratic Representative Diana DeGette.
