New York City mayor Bill de Blasio is poised to provide more funding to smaller art institutes throughout the city.
With a $178 million art budget, the mayor hopes to redistribute the funds to create more equality amongst organizations.
While institutions in underprivileged areas would greatly benefit from the re-allotment, major art organizations fear massive budget cuts could jeopardize their institutions.
New York City’s commissioner of cultural affairs Tom Finkelpearl vowed the plan will not dramatically reduce funding to larger organizations.
“There will be something that says there are parts of New York City that are under-resourced, and that’s going to be something we want to address,” Finkelpearl explained
