Although President Trump’s proposed budget plan initially threatened to cut funding for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), a new budget agreement passed by Congress allocates a total of $150 million to both organizations.
In addition, the Institution of Museum and Library Services will receive a $1 million increase and the Smithsonian Institution will receive a $23 million increase in funding.
Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) stated, “Early on in this debate, Democrats clearly laid out our principles. At the end of the day, this is an agreement that reflects those principles.”
