In Massachusetts, hundreds of arts advocates rallied at the State House on Tuesday to make a statement on the need for funding for the arts.
The rally of arts advocates marched across Boston Common to the State House, holding signs and chanting.
As part of the Arts Matter Advocacy Day, the march is part of a larger effort to pressure the state to invest more funds in arts and culture programs and institutions, in the face of what might be complete defunding of the arts by the Trump administration.
Organizers said that the movement “reflects a new sense of urgency in the arts community after President Trump earlier this month proposed eliminating the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and other cultural agencies from the federal budget,” as reported by Boston Globe.
