Digital technology is increasingly available for more cultural mediums, and in turn more artistic and cultural mediums are available to more groups of people.
The interconnectivity that the internet offers supports new avenues of exploration for artists, writers and creative people to distribute their creative content.
Social media platforms have made arts and culture projects and careers more sustainable for creative people, by giving them a way to seek out those who will support their work.
Moreover, subscription-based media is on the rise. Within the last few years, arts and culture platforms that rely on subscriptions, such as Netflix, Time Magazine, the New York Times, Apple Music, or podcasts, have experienced an incredible boost in support from the new generation of millennials that “seems to be more concerned with social impact” through conscious decisions about where it places its time, money, vote, and energy.
