This past Thursday, the latest five year update to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Department of Health and Human Services was met with outrage from one doctors group.
“The nonprofit group, known as the Physicians Committee, threatened to sue if the 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans…failed to recommend Americans limit their cholesterol consumption,” reports The Hill.
This latest modification left cholesterol recommendations untouched, a move the Physicians Committee attributes to pressure from the food industry. The nonprofit alleges that documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act disclosed a “money trail” from industry groups leading to universities employing members of the Dietary Guidelines Committee.
