This Saturday, due to a massive community effort, a new Silicon Valley shelter will be opening in Sunnyvale to provide shelter to homeless individuals for the duration of what is expected to be a cold, rainy winter. Unlike other shelters, the new center will only accept individuals referred by an agency and who commit to stay for the entirety of the winter season until March 31.
The opening of the new facility marks an achievement for the famous home of the tech industry which, despite its ostensible wealth, sees the nation’s highest percentage of homeless people sleeping in the streets on any given night.
