CEO Michael Garb discusses the different challenges of leading commercially-focused business organizations and nonprofits. Michael Garb was appointed CEO of Youth and Family Enrichment Services (YFES) in 2008 after an extensive business career that included positions as an accountant, controller and CFO; as a small business owner; and as a senior executive and chief operating officer with substantial organizations. In preparation for his transition to the nonprofit field, Michael Garb served for 16 years on the boards of both the Family and Community Enrichment Services (FACES) and Youth and Family Enrichment Services, also knows as YFES, which he now leads. YFES is one of the largest and most respected non-profit agencies in San Mateo County, and provides a wide array of free and low-cost services to help over 34,000 children, youth and adults each year who are dealing with substance abuse, violence, mental health and other issues.
